Do Adventists Think Attending an Easter Service Is Sin?

My question to you is this: do Adventists really believe attending a Sunday church is of the devil?  Somehow a Satanic place? My husband has gone with me, early in our marriage, when my mother’s church had a special service. He is good about doing things like that occasionally, but I’m not sure he would go with me if his Adventist family is around him. I am hoping he will attend the Easter service with me, but whatever happens, I will  take joy in the day and my own celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus!

Response: Not all Adventists believe it’s a sin to visit a Sunday church for special occasions, but they do believe it would be a sin to go regularly. Adventists do believe that Sunday is “dangerous”—and Easter is somehow avoided because it’s on what Richard’s mom used to call “the venerable Day of the Sun”. I believe Adventists’ avoidance of Easter worship services (they are often happy to engage in Easter egg hunts and to indulge in chocolate bunnies on that day) actually stems from something far deeper that most of them cannot access: a visceral fear of acknowledging Jesus’ finished atonement that literally broke our death sentence. Besides, since Adventists don’t believe they have immaterial spirits that are born dead and must be made alive, they have no concept of the real significance of Jesus’ resurrection. They don’t see it as connected with eternal life except peripherally. They see the resurrection just as the assurance that their bodies will rise one day. It’s not salvific in their paradigm.

Adventists stand before God and tell Him He was wrong when He says Israel is the apple of His eye,  and as long as there is a sun and a moon Israel will ALWAYS BE a nation before Him (Jeremiah 31:36). You Adventists are NOT Israel; shame on you. You better put down your false prophet books and read the Bible only, then you will know the truth ,and it will set you free.
