A New Kind of Adventism?

This link was shared with me by some Adventist friends. The website sounds like they are trying to embrace the gospel yet remain Seventh-day Adventist. I wonder what the real goal is.

Response: This sort of movement really upsets me. They attempt to sound Christian, but if you peruse their belief statements, there are several glaring omissions and declarations that aren’t true.

First, in speaking about Jesus, they mention that He died on a cross for sins, but they do not explain His substitutionary atonement, or of our need to be born again. They do not discuss the blood of Jesus.

Second, their belief statements establish the Ten Commandments as the “foundational principles that exhibit the characteristic of God”. Never does Scripture say the Law reveals God’s character, nor does it say we have figure out what God’s character IS in order to be saved. Adventism says the great controversy is over Satan’s lie about God’s character, but this assumption is not true. Furthermore, the law is not God’s “standard of judgment”. God Himself is—and in the person of the Son, all of God’s judgment for human sin was poured out on Jesus on the cross. When we place our faith and trust in His finished atonement, we pass from death to life. If we don’t, we REMAIN under His wrath (John 3:18, 36).

Third, the Sabbath is not a “creation ordinance”. This is Adventism’s current argument, but the sabbath was not established at creation. Sabbath was first mentioned and required in Exodus 16 of Israel in the wilderness when God gave the manna.

Fourth, we are never asked to accept Jesus as our “best friend”. We are asked to believe and trust His blood atonement shed for our sins which has already fully propitiated for them. He is our Lord, our Savior. The idea of Jesus as our best friend utterly misses that He came to DIE. He came to atone for sin, not to show us how to keep then law.

This belief statement is entirely Adventist. It leaves out a lot of the underlying facts: Ellen White, her influence, the physicalism that shapes their worldview and the great controversy, and the central role of Satan—but all of their stated beliefs are pure Adventism.

This new, white-washed Adventism is even more deceptive than classic Adventism, all without changing any of its beliefs!

They want converts, and because the religion is dark, the spiritually consuming nature of it is just as strong in this church as it is in historic Adventism. The Sabbath continues as its central “marker”, and they will get converts on the basis of their Sabbath arguments.

Praying for Entangled Loved Ones

This is such beautifully written truth, Colleen, and I’ve shared it with a few family members!  As the world seems to be polarizing in divisiveness, so do those remaining in Adventism seem to dig in deeper to its false narrative. I’m praying that the Lord will break the bondage of all cults that deceive our loved ones and all who are entangled in their Satanic grasp!

Thank you for this article and all that your ministry is doing in sharing the true gospel.
