Following is a comprehensive list of Bible passages that show what the Bible says concerning each of these six points:

  1. Man was created in the image of God with an immaterial spirit/soul (within the material body).

  2. The Bible never teaches that spirits (including human spirits) ever cease to exist.

  3. The Bible does teach that the spirits/souls of saved people continue in conscious existence after physical death.

  4. The Bible also teaches that the spirits/souls of unsaved people continue in conscious existence after physical death.

  5. The Bible teaches that the spirits/souls of saved people will return to their bodies and they will be resurrected and be with the Lord Jesus forever.

  6. The Bible teaches that the spirits/souls of unsaved people will also return to their bodies and they will be resurrected and be punished eternally.

5. The Bible teaches that the spirits/souls of saved people will return to their bodies and they will be resurrected and be with the Lord Jesus forever.

1 Kings 17:21-22: "And he stretcheth himself out on the lad three times, and calleth unto Jehovah, and saith, 'O Jehovah my God, let turn back, I pray Thee, the soul of this lad into his midst;' and Jehovah hearkeneth to the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the lad turneth back into his midst, and he liveth." (YLT.)

Isaiah 26:19: "Your dead will live; Their corpses will rise You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, For your dew is as the dew of the dawn, And the earth will give birth to the departed spirits." (NASB.)

Matthew 10:28: "'Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." (NASB.)

Luke 8:54-55: "He, however, took her by the hand and called, saying, 'Child, arise!' And her spirit returned, and she got up immediately; and He gave orders for something to be given her to eat." (NASB.)

Luke 16:30-31: "'But he said, 'No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!' 'But he said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.''" (NASB.)

Acts 20:9-10: "And there was a young man named Eutychus sitting on the window sill, sinking into a deep sleep; and as Paul kept on talking, he was overcome by sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead. But Paul went down and fell upon him, and after embracing him, he said, 'Do not be troubled, for his life [lit. "soul"] is in him.'" (NASB.)

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18: "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring [lit. "lead"] with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words." (NASB.)

Revelation 20:4: "Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years." (NASB.)
